deviantART - Data Mining III - Verification

Status

Just so you guys know I'm not making the data mining numbers up, here's the summary of official stats from a recent dA post techgnotic.deviantart.com/jour…

1.5 million comments per day on dA (I called it at 1.6 parallellogic.deviantart.com/j…, but it varies from day to day)

2.5 billion pageviews per month.  Alexia puts dA pageviews/user per day at around 11, so that's 7.5 million unique users per day.  Compare that with 100,000 users that are logged in at any given point in time.  If you can comment on this journal, you are the 1%.  I saw a post on Reddit making that joke with their numbers - I surmise that it's probably pretty common that only 1 in 100 users that browse a site also create an account

12,000 new members daily.  I'll be looking into this one as part of the next data mining series, I currently see a little over 11,000 a day with only a few days worth of data, so that roughly matches up

They also quote 22 million user accounts and 220 million deviation uploads.  That means each user account uploads 10 deviations.  That number seemed a bit high - I recall seeing something closer to 6 deviations per account a few years ago.  At first glance, user account creation doesn't appear to be slowing, so it's likely due to the standardization of submission content - ie, journals now count as deviations, etc.  I'll look more closely at submissions over time in a future data mining series as well.

The rest of that talk is mildy insightful (a cursory comparison of trade mark vs copyright seemed intersting).  Interview with anon didn't quite work - wasn't quite sure if that was supposed to be a joke or not.  Seems like if the guy worked for the official staff of the Simpsons, he wouldn't be that hard to track down, especailly with that laundry list of distinctive endeavors.
